Kenworth has officially expanded its zero-emission portfolio with the launch of three new conventional medium-duty battery-electric vehicles: the T280E, T380E, and T480E. Built on PACCAR’s fully integrated ePowertrain platform, these new Class 6-8 models are designed to bring electric efficiency to a wider range of applications, including regional haul, utility, and vocational work.
Engineered for Versatility and Power
The new lineup is engineered to handle diverse operational needs without sacrificing performance. At the heart of these trucks is a flexible ePowertrain offering motor ratings from 170kW (230 hp continuous) up to 350kW (470 hp continuous), with peak output reaching 605 horsepower.
Torque is equally impressive, with ratings of 1,100 or 1,850 lb.-ft., ensuring these electric trucks have the low-end power required for start-and-stop delivery routes or heavier vocational demands.
Battery Range and Rapid Charging
To support daily fleet operations, Kenworth offers two battery string configurations:
- 250 kWh offering up to 200 miles of range.
- 375 kWh offering up to 280 miles of range.
Charging downtime is minimized with DC fast-charging capabilities (up to 350 kW), allowing the batteries to recharge in as little as one hour depending on the charger type.
Tailored for Every Application
This expansion completes a comprehensive medium-duty electric lineup, offering a solution for various weight classes:
- T280E (Class 6): Ideal for pickup, delivery, and urban routes with a 26,000 lb GVWR.
- T380E (Class 7/8): Suited for regional haul and utility work with a 33,000–50,000 lb GCWR.
- T480E (Class 8): Designed for heavier duty cycles, drayage, and vocational applications with a 66,000–82,000 lb GCWR.
For vocational customers, the inclusion of the PACCAR central drive eMotor allows for greater wheelbase flexibility and the installation of lift axles. Additionally, factory-installed high-voltage ePTO ports are available to power auxiliary equipment, making these units ready for body upfitters.
Driver-Focused Technology
Inside, the driving experience mirrors the premium quality found in Kenworth’s combustion models. Drivers will benefit from the 15-inch Digital Display and the Kenworth SmartWheel, ensuring critical vehicle data is always at their fingertips. The trucks also feature distinct blue hydrographics and badging to signify their zero-emission status.
If you are looking to transition your fleet to zero-emission power without compromising on durability or vocational capability, these new models are now available for order with production scheduled for 2026.
